How Does Nature “Function”?

Many relationships in our world can be represented as mathematical functions. You can think of a function as an input–output machine: it takes a number as input and then outputs some other number according to a well-defined rule.

Modern mathematics begins in the seventeenth century with the calculation and graphical representation of motion as a function. In this exhibition, visitors can discover relationships between distance, speed, and time and learn how these relationships are expressed as mathematical functions.

You can create a function by walking or discover how your movements can be transformed into a virtual flight.
